What is Quartz? Everything you need to know

Choosing Quartz means you can enjoy the look and feel of a stone work surface without the inconsistencies of natural stone and with the benefits of an engineered material.

Quartz Worktops are a composite, man made material that is formed of Quartz (the natural substance) and resin formed into surfaces. It is made by crushing Quartz Minerals into particles and combining this with resin to create consistently beautiful patterning, colours, and finishes. Formed into large slabs, it can be cut to precise measurements and used throughout the home, it is particularly good for large islands and long runs.

Because of the nature of how Quartz surfaces are made it is an extremely versatile material in terms of both looks, and uses. The styles on offer are abundant and can be everything from plain white to intricately patterned marbles meaning there is something to suit any style kitchen. Specific colours and looks can be designed to suit trends and achieve the desired look whilst maintaining the quality and performance benefits of an engineered stone.

The finish of the Quartz can also be altered, most Quartz colours come in a high gloss ‘polished’ finish, but there is also the option of slightly matte finishes which are sometimes called ‘honed’ or ‘suede’ and which suit the industrial or minimalist look perfectly. The consistency of Quartz is another benefit; patterning and finishes are constant meaning you will have a good idea of how a pattern will play out on your worktops and can even get ‘bookmatched’ slabs, where the marble pattern is reflected in the opposite direction on another slab, of marble effect Quartz.

The process of making Quartz ensures it is a highly durable, extremely hard product meaning it is heat and scratch resistant and incredibly hard-wearing. Because of the durability of Quartz, the surfaces also have great guarantees about quality and durability. What’s more, the nature of Quartz means it has very low porosity and won’t absorb, meaning it is stain resistant and ideal for our busy kitchen surfaces as it won’t harbor bacteria from food and dirt! This also means it does not have to be resealed as some natural products require and is easy to clean and maintain.

Quartz is a chic and practical addition to your home and gives a luxury finish to your kitchen with the look of natural stone but the consistency and performance of a man made material.
