While this year comes racing to an end, it’s always nice to do a little reminiscing about the year that has passed. Here at Purple, our reminiscing is, of course, Kitchen related! And we see a lot of kitchens…
Here we break down our favourite worktop trends we have seen remain popular this year and those that we have seen more and more of.
Navy Blues
Remaining popular over this year, Navy is a classic colour choice for kitchens, suiting any space, size, or style! And the pairing of navy with a marble effect stone, has been a popular choice over the last few years and has remained. This year we have seen more people choosing to go with a subtle marble worktop, such as a Carrara stone and pairing this with their units for a refined look.
The benefits of a dark unit with light worktops is not only a stylish choice but has practical benefits, the dark units will not show the dirt and food marks and will be an investment into your kitchen as Navy is a timeless trend. Light worktops, particularly in a marble effect, are also a great addition to the classy, timeless look but as Quartz is stain resistant, does not stop light worktops from being a practical choice.
Choosing the classic combination of blue and white also means that you can be daring with other choices, such as in this installation where the clients chose gold hardware and a feature lighting pendant to go over the island. Another option would be to go with a colourful floor.
Light on Light
Light coloured worktops are ideal for dispersing light across a room and giving a sleek look to the kitchen. In 2021 we have seen lots of people taking the benefits of light one step further by choosing to pair white worktops with light units! This gives a bright, clean look to the kitchen and works well in smaller rooms to exaggerate the natural (or artificial) light.
Light on Light colours also has the benefit of allowing other features to be the focus of the kitchen such as feature lighting like pendants, hardware such as taps and door handles, and soft furnishings. The stone can remain a feature of the kitchen choosing a marble effect such as this two tone installation of navy and white, the blue toned veining in the stone picking up the darker units as well!
Brights
Brightly coloured units paired with a variety of worktops is a trend that has been growing this year from what we have seen. Showing your individual style through bright kitchen units is a great way to bring life to the kitchen and can complement other additions such as flooring or wall colours. We have seen this trend most often alongside neutral worktops such as white and grey, as well as darker earthy colours to allow the colour of the units to be the focus of the kitchen.
